Your TT

Pick your year to see what fits.

There was no 2007 TT in the US. The 225, 3.2 and TTS are always quattro, and every TT from 2010 on is quattro.

Why do it

Parts to buy

Double-check fitment before buying. We may earn a commission when you buy through these links, at no extra cost to you.

Before you start

  • 2000–2001 cars usually have a ball stud on the cable mount and 2002–2006 cars a pin stud. Check yours before you order.

Steps

  1. Remove the gear linkage

    • Open up the linkage at the top of the transmission and take off the stock shift lever.
Watch this step (on a Mk1 TT, with a different brand of shifter) (2:49–4:23)
  2. Fit the new shifter

    • Fit the new lever, refit the linkage and check every gear with the engine off.
    Watch this step (4:23–5:35)

How to know it worked

Did this guide work for you?

Safety first

  • Park on flat ground, set the parking brake and chock the wheels.
  • Never get under a car held up only by a jack. Use jack stands.
  • Let the engine and exhaust cool first.
  • Disconnect the battery before unplugging electrical parts.
  • Wear safety glasses.
  • If something doesn't match your car, stop and ask a shop.

Follow your part's instructions and your service manual's torque specs.
