TT Front-mount intercooler

Your TT

Pick your year to see what fits.

There was no 2007 TT in the US. The 225, 3.2 and TTS are always quattro, and every TT from 2010 on is quattro.

Why do it

The stock side-mount intercoolers are small and heat up when you drive hard. A big front-mount keeps the intake air cooler, so power holds steady, and it matters most on a tuned car.

Heads up

Fitted only to the 225. Your kit's instructions come first, since the video uses a different brand.

Before you start

  • This is a bumper-off job. Check what your kit includes before you start.
  • Expect to move the headlight washers or horns on some cars.

Steps

  1. Take off the bumper

    • Remove the front wheels and arch liners, then take off the bumper.
Watch this step (Power Bros, on a Mk1 TT) (0:32–0:54)
  2. Remove the stock intercoolers

    • Disconnect the pipes and unbolt the stock intercoolers from each side.
    Watch this step (0:54–3:07)
  3. Clear the headlight and sensor

    • Move the headlight and temperature sensor to get the room you need.
    Watch this step (3:07–6:00)
  4. Mount the new intercooler

    • Bolt the new core in place and check it sits level behind the bumper.
    Watch this step (6:00–9:29)
  5. Fit the pipes

    • Fit the new pipes and silicone joins, and tighten every clamp.
    Watch this step (9:29–12:31)
  6. Trim and refit the bumper

    • Refit the horns and sensor, trim the bumper where your kit requires it, and bolt it back on.
    Watch this step (12:31–14:11)

How to know it worked

Did this guide work for you?

Safety first

  • Park on flat ground, set the parking brake and chock the wheels.
  • Never get under a car held up only by a jack. Use jack stands.
  • Let the engine and exhaust cool first.
  • Disconnect the battery before unplugging electrical parts.
  • Wear safety glasses.
  • If something doesn't match your car, stop and ask a shop.

Follow your part's instructions and your service manual's torque specs.
