Why do it

The biggest gain for the money on a turbo TT. You flash it yourself at home through the OBD-II port, and you can go back to stock any time.

Heads up

Connect a battery charger and never unplug the cable while it's flashing.

Tools you'll need

Parts to buy

Double-check fitment before buying.

Before you start

  • You need the IE tune for your engine and IE's PowerLINK cable (sold separately). The cable reads your car and only flashes the right tune.
  • Use the octane you actually buy (91 or 93). You can switch octane or go back to stock any time without paying again.

Steps

  1. Install the software

    • Download the drivers and IE Flash Wizard from IE's tuning site and install them on your laptop.
Watch this step (Integrated Engineering) (0:00–0:31)
  2. Connect to the car

    • Hook up a battery charger. Plug the PowerLINK into your laptop and the OBD-II port under the dash, then turn the ignition on without starting the engine.
    Watch this step (0:24–0:49)
  3. Pick your stage and octane

    • Let it read the car, then choose Stage 1 (for a stock car) and your fuel octane. Check the credits match and confirm.
    Watch this step (0:49–1:20)
  4. Flash the tune

    • Press flash and don't touch anything until it's done (a few minutes up to about 20). Warning lights like ABS during the flash are normal.
    Watch this step (1:20–1:57)
  5. Restart and drive

    • Turn the ignition off and back on when it tells you. The lights clear and the tune is installed. Drive gently at first.
    Watch this step (1:36–2:22)

How to know it worked

Did this guide work for you?

Safety first

  • Park on flat ground, set the parking brake and chock the wheels.
  • Never get under a car held up only by a jack. Use jack stands.
  • Let the engine and exhaust cool first.
  • Disconnect the battery before unplugging electrical parts.
  • Wear safety glasses.
  • If something doesn't match your car, stop and ask a shop.

Follow your part's instructions and your service manual's torque specs.
