Parts to buy

Before you start

  • Let the exhaust go completely cold, and soak all the bolts in penetrating oil.
  • These shorty headers keep the factory catalytic converters, but check your local laws.

Steps

  1. Remove the stock manifolds

    • Unbolt the exhaust and take out the old manifolds.
Watch this step (BBK shorty headers on a 5.7L R/T) (2:01–6:13)
  2. Fit the new headers

    • Put in the new gaskets and headers, fit the heat shields and tighten everything.
    Watch this step (6:13–8:44)
  3. Start it up

    • Start the car and listen for leaks.
    Watch this step (8:44–9:19)

How to know it worked

Did this guide work for you?

Safety first

  • Park on flat ground, set the parking brake and chock the wheels.
  • Never get under a car held up only by a jack. Use jack stands.
  • Let the engine and exhaust cool first.
  • Disconnect the battery before unplugging electrical parts.
  • Wear safety glasses.
  • If something doesn't match your car, stop and ask a shop.

Follow your part's instructions and your service manual's torque specs.
